Another Concern for a local 73 yr old Triathlete, Joyce Bahler of
Portland, OR. Joyce is well known in the area and member of Gecko Tri
Club. She's not very fast but tries hard to improve.
She's been cycling for years and has done the week long Cycle
Oregon in Sept for many years as have I. A couple of years ago she
tried to do Ironman Florida but didn't make the cut off time. Last
year she managed to complete the Half IM Utah accompanied by several
of us who went out to bring her in a group of local kids who walked
with her. She now has her toughest race ahead.
A day so so into Cycle Idaho on July, 26 she went unconscious while
riding and fell. She sustained some pretty dramatic bruises, road rashs, gashes
a broken check bone with her most serious injury to her head. She
had bleeding and swelling in her brain from the impact of
the fall. She is not fully conscious but was finally transported back to a
Portand Hospital. The transportation cost amounted to $7000 not of which
will be covered by insurance. A local fund has been set up to
help with this expense. Please keep her in your prayers.
Donations if one so desires can be made to US Bank, the account name
Joyce Bahler Travel Fund or sent to Gateway Bicycles. Her son in law
Mike Healey is owner of Gateway Bicycles.
