The USAT Women's Commission is now online with our web site: http://www.smfsport.com/USATWomen . In the last issue of Tri Times, Lisa Lynam noted the growth of women in the sport of triathlon and duathlon. We continue to be an education resource for women in multisport and to reach out to a wide audience to continue to increase those numbers.
We have lots of goals: We want to:
· promote, inform, encourage, and inspire women in the sport;
· recruit more women to participate;
· publicize and solicit donations to the Judy Flannery Memorial Fund;
· recruit women into leadership positions in the triathlon/duathlon world; and
· promote the public image of women in triathlon/duathlon.
We plan to provide:
· information on where the races are, where the clinics are, where the web resources are;
· news relating to women in the sport - with stories on age groupers and pros;
· shared stories of women's learning to compete, train, and enjoy their athletic potential; and
· tips on training and racing and balancing commitments to home, school, work, spiritual, community, and self (oh yeah - that person counts too!).
Who is the audience?
· current women members of USAT can put the information to use immediately and can help us by giving tips, items for discussion, and comments;
· other women athletes can check out the site - we'd like to have them give triathlons/duathlons a try; and
· other women non-athletes can take a look - and get started, coached, informed, and recruiting friends.
What's there?
· Commission: who we are, our mission, our comments;
· Activities: race clinics, women's only races, commission activities;
· Forum: a place to read and leave tips for racing/training, and to start a topic for discussion;
· Your Stories: a place to write us about yourselves;
· News and Information: general news on the triathlon/duathlon world as it relates to women;
· Judy's Fund: the Judy Flannery Memorial Fund, which promotes the true spirit of the sport and sponsors a women in going to the World Championships;
· USAT Link: an easy link to USATriathlon;
· Other Links: a list of links to other sites of interest to women in the sport;
· Site Map: what's where and how to get there.
The WC also plans to implement various clinics/workshops offered via the WC reps in their local areas. These clinics will be aimed at offering a solid foundation and introduction to multisport, targeting the "novice to low intermediate level" women (0-3 years of experience). The clinics will cover: introduction to multisport; training schedules-daily, weekly and annually; technical sessions on swim, bike, run; active segments on swim, bike, run; transitions; integrating it all; the mental physical and psychological benefits of multisport; and nutrition.
So come visit and give us your help in sharing our enthusiasm and knowledge of the sport!
