Information for Active Women Now Online,
ITU News Update #6

News/Info

" The very popular Sports Medicine Australia fact sheets for active women have gone online.  The information on these fact sheets are most valuable for female triathletes so you are encouraged to distribute the web address to your contacts in our sport.

The fact sheets, developed by Sports Medicine Australia's Medicine and Science for Women in Sport Group (MSWIS), provide up to date, easily readable health information for all active women, sportswomen, coaches and health professionals.

The Fact Sheets cover Pre-Menstrual Syndrome and the Sportswoman; Exercise in Pregnancy; Nutrition for Sportswomen; Women, Menopause and Sport; Exercise and Osteoporosis; and, Contraception for Sportswomen and can be downloaded free of charge at: www.sma.org.au/smawomen.html

The fact sheets were produced with funding assistance from Active Australia, the SCORS Women in Sport Sub Committee, and the SA, WA and ACT Governments.

According to MSWIS Convenor, Dr Marg Torode, "Whether you are a novice, an enthusiast or an elite sportswoman, the fact sheets provide practical information on commonly asked questions by girls and women wanting to stay active or improve their health and well-being.

"The fact sheets are designed to make sure that women have access to health information that will help them stay active, and stay competing in sport.  The lessons from elite sportswomen can be useful for the rest of us."

Dr Torode said that the fact sheets would be followed in the future by a comprehensive Women in Sport book covering a huge array of topics for women in sport - from weight training to contact sports in pregnancy.

Full colour sets of the fact sheets are also available by downloading the online orderform"
