Judy's Time
Report

From filmmaker Erin Flannery, whose work commemorates her late mother, triathlon great Judy Flannery:

First: new developments

Second: new showings

First: new developments:

There have been two JUDY'S TIME developments that I would like to share. My co-editor David Klagsbrun and I have been nominated for Best Documentary Editing by the American Cinema Editors, the honorary society of film editors.

JUDY'S TIME is one of only three documentaries to be nominated. The other two are major studio, big budget productions.

Second, CINE, an organization managed by a national board comprised of 22 representatives from the film and video industry, conducts an annual film competition for U.S.-made films. It has selected JUDY'S TIME for its Eagle Award as one of the outstanding amateur films of the year. It has also selected JUDY'S TIME as a finalist for its Master Series Award which recognizes the best of the best in three divisions: broadcast, non-broadcast and pre-professionals. The awards dinner will be held at the National Geographic Society in Washington, DC, on February 24.

Plans are in the works for screenings of Judy's Time in some triathlete hubs this spring. See below.

Second: New showings

1. "JUDY'S TIME" UPDATE: From Erin Flannery (mailto:EireFlan@aol.com):

Judy's Time, the film, will be showcased by the Kodak Emerging Filmmakersprogram at the 2001 Cannes International Film Festival in May. Kodak created the Worldwide Emerging Filmmakers Program to help bridge the gap between student filmmaker and established industry filmmaker. If a film wins one of five or so select student film festivals -- such as the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences or Ft. Lauderdale Film Festival, both of which bestowed the award for 1st Place Documentary on Judy's Time -- Kodak gives the director the Emerging Filmmaker Award. That includes a motion picture film grant and the opportunity to attend and participate in the Cannes Film
Festival. It's a unique advantage for students who would otherwise be locked out of the festival, as it is not open to the public.
On May 15th, Judy's Time and the other winning films will be showcased at the American Pavilion at the festival.

2. "JUDY'S TIME" PLAYS CLOSER TO HOME: Also from Erin Flannery:
On April 21, the multi-award winning documentary Judy's Time, will be screening in the Lindsey Auditorium at the University of Denver at 7:30 pm after a preview dinner at 5:30.
Judy's Time has captured national attention for its moving and often humorous portrayal of a woman whose athletic talent sparked her spectacular midlife transformation and changed the community around her. A  mother of five who began running at age 38, Judy Flannery became a four-time world champion triathlete in her 50s. Sadly, at age 57, she was struck and killed
by a car while she was training.

Her daughter Erin made this documentary in tribute to her mother. Come meet Erin and enjoy the film. Call 303-871-6934 or e-mail (mailto:lbirdson@du.edu) for more information
