Discussion #1:  Paula Evans writes: Athena gear: I'm a big girl and I have a lot of trouble finding sufficiently supportive clothing that works well for all 3 sports. The biggest problem is that manufacturers of women's athletic wear seem to think that all female athletes are around 5 feet tall, very thin, and flat-chested.  I've only found 1 or 2 bras that come close to fitting and providing the support I need for running, but they only come in white.  That looks really cute under a swimsuit on race day!  Some manufacturers think an XL is size 11-12 and they don't even make anything bigger than that.  It's very discouraging.  "pjevans@davesworld.net"  You can reply to Paula directly - but please also reply here so we can post it to the discussion.

You asked where to find gear for all three sports for athenas - yes, welcome to our version of a challenge!  I'm 5'9", and have raced the last two years at 205 (down from 245). Anyway, here are my best sources for clothing:

1. Men's multisport shorts: I use a man's Tri short that has a small pad in it - I believe I had a Hind pair this year.  DeSoto also makes tri shorts, but I don't know if they wick. They make them for big men, just not big women...

2.  Bras - I've used a variety in the last two years, but I swim with a wetsuit now, and I wear the Moving Comfort Athena (I think that's the right name). It comes in larger sizes and for bigger cups, and I had no trouble swimming in it with a little body glide. By the time I hit the run it's dry.

3.  Men's wetsuit - No one makes a women's wetsuit that fits a woman over 180 pounds.  I bought an Xterra long suit this year (no arms) that worked really well for me.

4.  Other performance apparel - hard to find - but for about a year, Moving Comfort made performance fabric clothes for women - you may be able to find some closeout stuff online.

5. Terry Bicycles - www.terrybikes.com has clothing for woman over size 14 in performance fabrics.  This includes good bike shorts and tops.

6.  Other bra suggestions - I raced this year in my sports bra and shorts under the wetsuit - then threw on a tank for the bike and kept it for the run. It worked well for me, but I had to get comfortable showing the world stomach flab. If you can do that, you're golden.
